Week 2 Predictions: Buffalo Bulls

Penn State will host the Buffalo Bulls (1-0, 0-0) at 7:30 PM ET in Beaver Stadium. The game will be televised on FOX. The graphic below provides a general breakdown of the opponents, but if you want more information about Buffalo checkout our preview here. At the time this was written, the spread was Penn State -29.5. I would like to point out I was the only one to cover last week. Also, everyone should shame Brandon for his 28-10 Idaho prediction. Here are our predictions for this:

Brandon Musso (1-0) & (0-1) vs. The Spread

Last week, I severely overestimated Idaho’s defense and doubted Penn State’s new look offense could score over 30 points. This week, I feel as though Buffalo will prove to be a tougher opponent than Idaho, but not by much. As Cory mentioned in his game preview, Buffalo, coming off a 10-4 season in 2018, looks very different as they lost quite a few starters, mostly to graduation and transfers. They were one of the better programs in the MAC last season, but this new young team has a lot to prove and probably won’t be much of a match for Penn State. This sets up an excellent opportunity for the young, inexperienced Nittany Lions to play under the lights at Beaver Stadium without the pressure of a big matchup against with a top ranked program like Ohio State or Michigan. Penn State rolls.

Buffalo: 10

Penn State: 45

Kraigen Rasalla (1-0) & (0-1) vs. The Spread

Penn State used their running game in Week One to destroy Idaho. Five different Nittany Lions running backs found the end zone, including Devyn Ford who scored an 81-yard touchdown in the For The Glory Of Old State Play of the Week.

As for this week, expect more of the same as Penn State looks to gash a Buffalo defense that returns only three starters to their defense. I believe we’ll see more Ricky Slade and Journey Brown than Noah Cain and Devyn Ford, but nonetheless, James Franklin and Ricky Rahne will look to run the ball down Buffalo’s throat.

I think this will be a close game through the first quarter as Buffalo is really well coached. But, the depth and speed Penn State seems to have this year will wear down the Bulls entering the second quarter as well as the second half.

Buffalo: 13

Penn State: 41

Cory Lestochi (1-0) & (1-0) vs. The Spread

The Bulls led by veteran head coach Lance Leipold, will have a tough time in Happy Valley. The Bulls lost so much from last year, and don’t seem to have an answer at quarterback; George Martin threw for only 92 yards on 9 attempts against Robert Morris. Look for Buffalo to try and establish the run game and try to hang on. Jackson and Johnson are the two players on the Bulls offense you should be paying attention to.

Buffalo is twice as talented as Idaho, but the results still won’t be good for the MAC school. Penn State wins big and creates more turnovers this time around. Also, don’t be mad at Coach if we win by a lot, here’s why.

Buffalo: 10

Penn State: 52
