Former 5 Star Recruit, George Campbell, Commits to Penn State for Final Season
George Campbell, a former 5 star wide receiver recruit that attended Florida State, announced Wednesday afternoon that he will become the newest Nittany Lion in 2019. Campbell entered the transfer portal on January 16 and after a little over a month of fielding offers, he decided to come to Penn State. He is a graduate transfer and will have one more season of eligibility left.
Campbell comes to Penn State after having only 13 receptions throughout his career at Florida State. However, his size, listed at 6′ 4″ 207 lbs., and his experience are two things that could make him a contributor during the 2019 season. Penn State lost experienced receivers De’Andre Thompkins (graduation), Juwan Johnson (transfer to Oregon), and Brandon Polk (transfer portal) already this offseason leaving talent, but little experience among the wide receivers group.
Penn State lost 11 players to the transfer portal this offseason and adding George Campbell through that same process will give new Wide Receivers Coach Gerad Parker a new talented player to develop. If he can learn the playbook and utilize the talent that made him the ninth ranked player in 247Sports recruiting rankings in 2015, Campbell could become a sneaky breakout candidate at the receiver position.
