Penn State Receives Commitment from 3 Star QB Prospect
After hauling in a top 15 recruiting class in the national rankings for the class of 2019, Coach James Franklin has turned his attention to bolstering the Class of 2020. Already landing four prospects in the 2020 class, Penn State added another one late Tuesday evening.
3 Star QB prospect Micah Bowens II committed to Penn State, becoming the fifth member of the 2020 recruiting class. Bowens II is a dual threat QB from the state of Nevada and joins LB Curtis Jacobs, LB Derek Wingo, DB Joshuah Moten, and OL Grant Toutant in the class.
According to 247Sports, Bowens II unofficially visited Penn State on February 1 and received his scholarship offer on the same day. A few weeks later he decided to commit to the Lions. In 2018, he threw for almost 2,800 yards, 29 TD, and just 8 INT. He also ran for over 900 yards on 100 attempts and 15 TD for Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.
He becomes a part of the latest trend in Penn State recruiting classes where Coach Franklin attempts to sign at least one QB per class. Here is how Penn State has brought in quarterbacks since 2014:
- 2019: Michael Johnson Jr. and Ta’Quan Roberson
- 2018: Will Levis
- 2017: Sean Clifford
- 2016: Jake Zembiec
- 2015: Tommy Stevens
- 2014: Michael O’Connor and Trace McSorley
As Penn State continues their recruiting success over the last few seasons, Micah Bowens II becomes the key QB to the class that Coach Franklin values so highly during each recruiting cycle.
